Mengqi Ji, a Chinese exchange student, found a career and a love match with Joe Elledge in the idyllic Missouri university town of Columbia; they married and started a family. It was a shock to her loved ones when she disappeared in October 2019 apparently to be with another man, leaving both her child Anna and her cell phone behind.
